Job Description

The role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced online business manager. The role will require you to completely manage a number of small online businesses. You will be responsible for overseeing that the day to day functioning of the businesses. Your key focus will be to make sure the businesses function at their maximum level of effectiveness and efficiency to ensure maximum sales and customer satisfaction. The candidate must be intelligent, self-motivated, be able to work without supervision, have excellent spoken and written english skills and be able to make high-impact decisions.

We have a small team of remote workers that are currently running the online businesses. We are looking to bring a business manager into the team to help as we advance the business to the next level.

In this role you will be responsible for managing the following processes:

Front line sales and customer service. Including sales calls, sales emails, customer service calls, customer service emails, quoting, invoicing, CRM, records keeping.
Ensure that our work procedures in google docs are are up to date and optimised and being used effectively.
Manage, monitor & train all remote workers.
Lead and manage our team. As appropriate source and manage third party suppliers.
Make high-impact decisions.
Work alongside the owner to help advance and improve the businesses.

To start with you will be heavily involved in the day to day running of the business. You will work alongside our team members and help them carry out the daily tasks in order to learn to business. This time working in the business will provide a hands on knowledge and understanding.

General expectations of you:
You must be interested in a long term position with tons of potential for growth: you will be expected to put your full effort into helping us grow our business. For the right person, there are a great deal of opportunities for you to increase your level of responsibility, fun, and compensation. I’m not interested in hiring people with robust side projects or businesses. I’d like somebody to work with us for a few years and help make our businesses something we can be extremely proud of.

What Skills Do You Need?
You need to be a learner: Many times you will be told to research how to do something, how to improve on something or how to solve a specific problem. The answers will not always be provided for you. Don’t get me wrong you’ll have a ton of support, but you will be expected to try to solve it on your own first.
You need to be teachable” We’re looking for someone who is knowledgeable but not set in their ways and we’re willing to train and teach, but a humble spirit and teachable attitude is needed.
You need to hustle, you need to have ambition. If there’s a better way to do something but it’ll take all night of work to get it done in time for the client… or if you see more ways to free me up to focus on growing the business or bringing in new clients yourself. Either way this is a position for an entrepreneur-minded person that doesn’t have the network or the ability to take the risks yet.
You need to have a laptop, and you need to know how to use it. We depend on internet and computers, you will need to provide your own laptop and you should be efficient at using it, from keyboard shortcuts to typing speed, from knowing what applications can improve your workflow to knowing how to remove distractions.
You have to be technical. You don’t need to be an expert in any of the following, but you should know your way around Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Evernote and other commonly used productivity and management web apps,.
You’ll need to write. There will be a lot of emails from you, you will need to know how to explain yourself, how to ask for what you need and how to explain problems you are running into. We’re a globally distributed team. You will also be required to mold emails to help close deals or overcome customer issues.
You need to be creative, but not in a design appearance way, more in a problem solving way. You will assist in improving our established processes. We’ve got our own processes for accomplishing the work for our clients, but we don’t want you to just follow a Standard Operating Procedure and call it a day. You should be able to creatively come up with new strategies to increase efficiencies or the value we offer to our clients.
You need to be great at verbal communication. You’ll be explaining things to staff and clients alike as well as communicating with me when you don’t know how to do something. You will need to excel at helping our customers.

You must have the following:
Minimum 2 years business/ business management experience within online business environment.
Qualifications in Business Management or other relevant qualifications.
Strong management skills and the ability to bring multiple employees and contractors to the table to take a project from conception to completion.
Strong relationship skills and the ability to foster strong relationships with employees, contractors and suppliers to achieve desired results.
Minimum 2 years managing remote workers.
Highly developed organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Include the words “online business manager” in your application.
A strong interest and knowledge in Business Management.
Proficiency in both spoken and written English.

Negotiable hours per week during our trading times (between 20 – 40 hours).

We will schedule Google Hangout interviews with the selected candidates. Typically there will be at least two interviews, maybe a third. The final step of the selection process will be for you to arrange reference calls with former supervisors as well as others we may choose.
