Salary: $17,910-$23,400

The Department of Management Services (DMS) is a customer-oriented agency responsible for managing various business-related functions throughout state government. The agency oversees the real estate, procurement, human resources, group insurance, retirement, telecommunications, private prisons and fleet and federal property assistance programs utilized throughout Florida’s state government. The Department of Management Services is relied upon to establish, maintain and improve the business processes used by state employees in doing their jobs to serve our Floridians. Department of Management Services staff facilitates the delivery of these programs and services and provides tools and training to bolster the efficiency and effectiveness of the state’s workforce. Minimum qualifications:
•One year of experience in grounds keeping and/or landscaping
•Valid Class E driver’s license

Employee is required to know names of the more common plants, be able to identify insect or disease conditions on plants, have knowledge of proper plant maintenance technique, including mowing, pruning, and cleanup. This position must be able to work independently, be able to follow directions and instructions, and have the skill to serve as a crew leader from time to time.

Incumbent filling this position is responsible for independently:

Mowing and edging lawns, trimming hedges and shrubs, watering landscapes, setting annuals, fertilization of lawns and landscape plants, spraying insecticides and fungicides. Raking and disposal of leaves and trash. Operation and maintenance to grounds keeping equipment, including tractors and backhoe. Weeding of landscape. Performs trash control duties, light custodial duties and other duties as required. Excellent public relation skills are required since this position is in continuous contact with both tenants and the public. It is required that courteous and respectful behavior is displayed at all times, plus conveying a professional image is needed as this position is a representative of the department to both the public and tenants.

Acts as a crew leader when instructed by supervisor. Directs, monitors, and inspects work performed by crew members to include spray operations, landscape installations, maintenance, or other jobs as necessary.

Assists supervisor, when instructed, in keeping records collecting data and handling administrative paperwork relating to Grounds Section operations. When necessary, may be assigned special projects by supervisor which may be performed independently or in conjunction with other employees.
